A prodigious treasury of original documents
and long-buries texts revealing the secrets of the ancient sciences and
the authentic iconography of occultism which has heretofore never been
collected together.
Grillot de Givry, a recognized scholar on the subject, has compiled and
explained more than 360 pictures chosen from the most curious and rare
of illustrated works on sorcery, magic, astrology, cheiromancy, cartomancy
and alchemy, including works in manuscripts and incanubala form. The selected
sources range from the Middle Ages to the eve of the Nineteenth Century
and include among other hidden subjects the Preparation for the Sabbath,
the Jewish and Christian Cabbalists, the Curative Virtues of the Invisible
Forces and the Laboratories of the Alchemists and of the Puffers. The
visions and studies of such masters as Paracelsus, Robert Fludd, Jakob
Boehme and the Comte de Saint-Germaine are examined. Depictions of the
Temptation of St. Anthony, the Witches Cauldron, the Magic Circle, Exorcism,
the Sepherotic Tree, the Hermetic Apotheosis, Mesmer’s Magnetic
Tub, the Cosmic Furnace and hundreds of others illuminate the most abstruse
doctrines with a commentary of instant lucidity.
